Why we made it
Overhead light flattens a bookcase. A floor lamp lights the room, not the books. What a shelf actually wants is a small warm source tucked inside it, low enough to catch the gold on a spine.
So we made one that needs no wall, no wire and no drill. It borrows its mounting from the books themselves: a 2mm plate, a warm 2700K LED, and a little iron arm that looks like it has always been there.

If two books can sit side by side on it, yes. The mounting plate is 2mm steel and slides into the gap between any two books, hardback or paperback. It works on shelves from 6 to 14 inches deep and needs no lip, bracket or wall contact.
No. The plate is powder-coated and deburred at every edge, and it rests against the boards rather than the pages.
Three AAA batteries, which are not included so the lantern can ship safely by air. No wires trailing down the bookcase.
2700K, the same as a domestic filament bulb, with CRI 90 colour accuracy. It is a reading-lamp glow, not a phone torch. It will not light a room and it is not meant to.
